3. What if the job takes a long time? Can you do it in one session?
If it’s a big job i will likely break it into sessions of three-hour blocks over a week / day’s , generally dreads can take anywhere from 5-14 hrs to install dependent on length and texture.
4. Can I bring friends, partner or children?
This depends on the location you are booked at. The studio spaces are quite small ,and have other clients being serviced so they are not generally suited to full day install clients family .
please bring food/snacks and beverages.
5. What about lunch ?
Please bring something with you.
6. Do you home visits ?
Yes ,however there is a surcharge added dependent of kilometers travelled. Its worth the drive to the studio … I promise!

I would prefer if you reschedule the booking…please don’t come if you are sick

Please let me know, so I don’t end up waiting for you. It’s a good idea to take our number with you; incase you have trouble find us etc… for new dreads and new clients I require a booking deposit fee of $100. if I end up waiting for someone that doesn’t notified us your deposit will be forfeited, rescheduling will not forfeit your deposit.
9. If i have head lice or lice eggs or a family member in my house has them ,do i still come to my appointment?
No Thanks ,strongly suggest you reschedule your appointment ,head lice are a real nightmare to treat in dreadlocks and for me this would mean having to treat my hair, and all surfaces and equipment that have been in contact with infected hair, very time comsuming and frustating. Please treat your hair with a lice treatment following all directions on the treatment system and get back to me when there is no sign of head lice or eggs.
Waiting-list for new dreadlocks and extensions
1.How can I get on the waiting-list?
I’m taking new names on the waiting list via e-mail only. Send to fairyrealmdreadlocks@gmail.com
2. How long is the wait?
I’m working down the list name by name; a 4-6 month wait can be expected. I can’t know when it will be your turn or promise you any dates.
3. How does the waiting-list work?
Currently, taking two months of bookings at a time. Once I have gotten down to your name on the list, I will send you an e-mail to let you know the dates that are available within the window of one month. If you can’t get here in this window you need to re-enter the waiting-list from the bottom.
I’m are very grateful that my services are very much in demand but I’m a one woman, fairy queen of dreadlocks at this stage and can only make the dreads I can! I’m trying my best to find you a space but it can only be within the following two month period. Currently booking two months of work at a time. Aside from making new dreads I also need to accommodate for a snowballing number of people needing maintenance. It is important to me that I not only make your dreads (and make them beautifully!) but will have the time to maintain them should you need it. Some weeks this limits me to only one new head of dreads a week which can make it difficult to get a booking. As a Dreadlocks Loctician /Artist have had to learn (the hard way) about stretching myself and over booking. I simply can’t keep up with the demand for Fairy Realm Dreadlocks unless it comes at the cost of the quality and integrity of my work (which is absolutely not what I want).I’m sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to meeting you!
4.What if I just want a big maintenance or fix up, or if I have very short hair or want just a few extensions?
I can often find space for these kind of jobs within a week or two when a few hours are available between other small bookings. In which case however, it may take a couple of sessions to complete.
Cost
1. How much does a full head of dreads cost?
The rate is $95 per hour per on weekdays and$105 on Sundays/public holidays. Shoulder length hair usually takes 3-6hrs, below the shoulders 4-7rs and long hair 7 hrs plus. Time varies according to hair-type and thickness, the structure and width of dreadlocks you choose. Cost also includes advice on your scalp and troubles you may encounter.
2. How much do you charge for extensions?
I prefer that client supplies own sourced hair for any extensions added to existing or new dreads . Can help assist with recommendations as to where to source .I prefer to dread up the loose from the extensions as I go and not pre dread to obtain a smoother seam and correct blending with sizing.
3. How much does it cost to have my dreads fixed up?
It depends on the condition of your dreads. If you’re coming for the first session a few months after you have them made it takes around 2-3 hrs. If you have well established dreads and need regrowth tidied and tightened we take between 2 and 4 hrs. Depending if big jobs including restructuring the dreadlocks at the scalp section, frizz and regrowth it can take around 5 hrs or more.
4. Payment options?
Cash, Pay Pal, Bank Deposit ,Square POS System. Coming Soon Crytpocurrencies!
Extensions
1. How long does my hair need to be to get dreadlocks extensions?
You can get extensions with only 5cm of length, if you have a sensitive scalp it would be better to have 10cm, as 5cm can be painful (I would need to use the crochet hook very close to the scalp).
2. Can I colour extensions?
Only the human hair extensions can be coloured. Synthetic hair is plastic and doesn’t take any dyes.
3. I colour my hair regularly… is it still possible with extensions?
Yes, however the dye can build up inside the dreadlocks, so ensure it is as natural as possible. Bleaching the dreadlocks can lead to chemical build-up and if it’s too strong it can cause damage and/or breakage. So it’s best to be very careful with bleaching. I have experienced customers receiving very expensive human hair extensions from me only to have them bleached by a hair dresser to the point where they have broken off at the scalp. So be very careful when choosing a hairdresser to do your dying!!!!
4. Can you extend my existing dreads?
Yes; it can be done and can have had very striking results.
5. How presentable are new dreadlocks extensions?
They will be a bit stiff and uniform in the beginning and the structure at the scalp will show. However; they will soften and settle in the first week. Because the extended hair is already dead and usually a little dry. It binds very quickly into a tight dreadlock and takes much less maintenance than the natural dread. Occasionally, customers with short hair have returned with some dreads mainly at the back or temples coming loose, but; this is easy fix.
6. How strong the extensions will be attached?
The strength highly varies according thickness of dread, length and strength of your hair.
-With a skinny dread you have less strains holding the extensions. dreads under 1cm are not as strong attached. 1cm in thickness will make a very strong hold
-With short hair we have less overlapping – with 10cm or less you likely need a touch up soonish. 10cm or longer make a strong hold.
-With fine hair you will have less strain strength – with a very skinny dread and fine hair; the dreads are much more fragile
Trouble dreads are likely located on either the temples or back of neck…..
The weakest point in your dreadlock is where the extensions is attached to your hair. With wear and tear the join can may become loose at any stage in the dreads life.
7. What if I have troubles with a new set of extension?
As mentioned above the strength of the dread-extension attached highly varies according of your hair. if you have any troubles with your new extensions. I can offer you a free touch up within the first 2-3 week. Shoot me an email as soon as possible to; fairyrealmdreadlocks@gmail.com and I will give you a spot to book in the next few days if possible.
8 . If you can’t come back? I will recommend an other The dread Shed trained Loctician
9. How long-lasting are the extensions?
This highly varies according how much wear and tear they get. You always wear them; so they get lots of wear and tear. Its like wearing the same clothing every day. After a few years you get holes and the fabric is less strong etc…
With extensions; Please don’t use any products like dread loc-up soap or powders that dry out the hair etc. This products will dry out and weaken the hair => shortens lifespan of extensions. Most places in Australia have hard water and the water can contain salt. The water and climate are harsh.
Maintenance
1. Can I do my own maintenance?
Yes! It’s possible to maintain your dreadlocks completely by yourself. However, it takes a little practice and sometimes it’s easier just to have me do it for you!
2. Should I wash my hair before maintenance?
Yes but make sure it’s totally dry ,it’s much better to have a clean, dry scalp before your maintain, so oils and dandruff doesn’t get fixed inside the regrowth as I tighten it.
3. What if I have head lice? Can i still come for my maintenance?
No I would prefer if you are clear of any sign of head lice before coming in to avoid spreading them. It’s also much easier to treat if your dreads are loose at the scalp.
4. I want to have my dreads tightened and neatened up, but don’t want all my regrowth in because it looks too unnatural, is that possible?
Everything is possible…I can tailor your maintenance exactly how you want it.
5. How often will I need my new dreads maintained?
If you have them made by me then hopefully not much at all! Some of our customers we see once a year after their new dreads have been made, some after one month, while others never have maintenance done at all. It depends on how neat you want them, and how close you like them to be on the scalp and how much you work on them yourself.
If you have very fine, straight or healthy hair then you can get a few flyaway’s which don’t take too long to fix up. Occasionally, my clients with very short hair have returned with some dreads at the back of their neck coming loose, but again; this is easy to fix.
Other Questions
1. I cut my dreads off but now I want them back, can you do it?
If you still have your old dreads I will happily attach them back on for you. Just ensure they have been washed and dried.
2. Will I lose three-quarters of the length of my hair if I get dreads?
If you have them made badly by back-brushing and rolling then yes, you will lose a lot of length. However, with The Dread Shed Dreadlocks method (especially open-ended dreads) you are only likely to lose a couple of inches.
3. If I get head lice do I have to cut my dreadlocks off to get them out?
No not at all, just use a pharmacy brand treatment or your favourite natural remedy.
4. Can I still wash my hair?
Yes but only with a natural, preferably organic residue free shampoo . Chemical shampoos leave a residue that can irritate the scalp and make you itchy and flakey. I make a custom shampoo blend ,just ask .
5. Do I have to cut them off if I don’t want them any more?
Not necessarily. In my experience dreads can actually be quite easily unpicked within at least the upper half of the dread. This is a time-consuming process however.
6. How long does my hair need to be to get dreadlocks?
I can dread almost any length longer than 5cm, ideally 10 cm minimum Obviously short hair makes short dreads.
7. Can I still dye my hair with dreads?
Yes
8. Do I need any products for my dreadlocks?
I recommend to wash with a natural oil based shampoo. I make my own and you can purchase it at the studio or drop me a message. Otherwise, you shouldn’t need anything else!
9. Should I wax my new dreadlocks?
NO ! I never recommend wax, because it builds up, is sticky, smelly, attracts dust and dirt, looks grimy and stops the dreads from drying and grows mould and mildew.
10. Where is the method you use from, Do you offer Dread courses/training/teaching???
The method I’ve trained in the is The Dread Shed Dreadlocks Course, owned and operated by Sam Price . I do not teach or sell this technique. Sam can be contacted for more details about the next intake.(http//thedreadshed.com/locticians-training-natural-dreadlocks)or sam@thedreadshed.com
However be aware of people who are claiming that they are trained by The Dread Shed Dreadlocks , and not able to verify their certificate .
Feel free to ask further info if I haven’t covered them here on this page.
