This handy chart can help you gauge the size of your dreads.
For the purchase of beads it’s always handy to get an idea of the general size of your locs, having said that they do vary from, dread to dread and even from the roots to through the body of the dread all the way to the tips, unless your ends are rounded.thats another story ( more on that later)
Dreadlocks are organic in that sense always evolving and changing ,that is what makes them so uniquely beautiful.
But this chart is a good point of reference . It can also be helpful to the new client or client wanting dreadlocks, to help you see what they will look like at a certain diameter.Another way to help the potential new dread head is to grab a section of loose hair and mimic the chart sizes by then twisting the hair section, this can help get a visual idea as to what size dreads you may choose.
Or course this a general guide only and hair thickness and texture play a role in the end result of your dreads, as your dreads mature and lock up they can, shrink and expand until they what is generally called mature( from a year to two years old) .
The sectioning I create and recommend is a root base of an inch x inch Square , this consistently gives dread of about the – small to pencil sized diameter on this chart.
